Kolkata, April 9: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are struggling in the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026). They are still in search of their first win of the season against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at their home ground. Given KKR’s poor record against LSG, this match poses a significant challenge.
So far, KKR has played three matches this season. They faced defeats in their first two games against the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their third match against the Punjab Kings was abandoned due to rain, resulting in just one point for KKR. However, their performance in that match was also far from satisfactory.
Currently, KKR sits at the ninth position in the points table. To improve their standing, they must secure a victory against LSG on Thursday at Eden Gardens.
Historically, KKR has found it difficult to compete against LSG. In their previous six encounters, LSG has emerged victorious four times, while KKR has only won twice. In IPL 2025, the two teams faced off once, with LSG winning by four runs.
Looking at LSG’s performance in IPL 2026, they have one win and one loss from two matches, placing them seventh in the standings. LSG won their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, showcasing a formidable bowling attack. Fast bowlers Mohammad Shami and Prince Yadav dismantled Hyderabad’s batting lineup. Additionally, captain Rishabh Pant returned to form, contributing significantly with an unbeaten 68 runs.
KKR is currently grappling with injuries to several key players, affecting their team balance. Therefore, achieving a win against the in-form LSG at home will not be an easy task. Under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, KKR will need to adopt a better strategy and team composition to turn their fortunes around.
