Minor Girl Faces Threats After Assault Incident at Protest in Delhi

New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : A minor girl, Nishu Azad, expressed her fear of leaving home after an assault incident involving her father at a protest in New Delhi. The incident occurred at Jantar Mantar, where the “Cockroach Public Party” (CJP) was demonstrating.

Following the assault, Nishu revealed she has been receiving continuous threats from supporters of the accused, including rape threats. This fear has kept her from attending school for weeks.

These comments came after a protest outside the Parliament Street police station, where the Delhi police assured that the accused, Indradhanush Bhardwaj, would be arrested within 72 hours under the POCSO Act, SC/ST Act, and attempted murder charges.

Prominent figures, including Chandrashekhar Azad, leader of the Azad Samaj Party, and Pappu Yadav, a member of Parliament from Purnia, joined the protest.

In her statement to reporters, Nishu said, “For days, those supporting him have been abusing me and threatening me with rape. I have filed an FIR against them. I hope the police will take action so I don’t have to endure this anymore.”

She added that the harassment made her feel ashamed to go outside. “I didn’t go to school for two to three weeks. Now, when I do go, I feel like everyone is judging me,” she said.

Nishu also mentioned that the police had been slow to respond but are finally taking action on her complaint.

The controversy erupted when the accused claimed in a viral video that he assaulted the girl’s father during the protest and that he was released due to his political connections.

Earlier on Friday, Chandrashekhar Azad stated, “Sanjay (the victim) and his daughter are living in fear of continuous threats of rape, acid attacks, and murder. If this is the situation in the capital, one can only imagine what it must be like in rural areas.”

He warned that if arrests were not made as promised, they would stage a protest at the police commissioner’s office and, if necessary, at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

CJP representative Sourav Das expressed confidence in the Delhi police to fulfill their promise, asserting that thugs would not be allowed to roam freely.
