Five Essential Factors for Success According to the Bhagavad Gita

New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Bhagavad Gita is not just a religious text; it offers profound insights into life and guidance for moving in the right direction. Its teachings remain relevant today. In particular, Lord Krishna discusses key concepts of action, duty, and their consequences. Among these teachings are five essential factors for achieving success in one’s endeavors. The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga shared this information on the social media platform X.

Often, when we succeed, we attribute it solely to our efforts, while we blame fate for our failures. However, the Gita teaches that the completion of any action involves not just individual effort but also five critical elements. These elements are outlined in Chapter 18, Verse 14 of the Bhagavad Gita.

The verse states: “Adhisthānam tatha kartā karaṇam ca prithagvidham, vividhāś ca prithak ceṣṭā daivaṁ caivātra pañcamam.”

The first factor for success is “Adhisthānam,” which refers to the body. The physical form through which we perform any task serves as the foundation for that action.

The second factor is “Kartā,” meaning the individual or soul who resolves to undertake a task. The desire, thought, and decision of a person are crucial when initiating any work.

The third factor is “Karaṇ,” which encompasses the senses and tools used to accomplish tasks. This includes our eyes, ears, and limbs.

The fourth factor is “Ceṣṭā,” which refers to the various efforts made to complete a task. Merely having a desire isn’t sufficient for success; consistent hard work and directed efforts are essential.

The fifth factor is “Daiva,” relating to circumstances and influences beyond our control. This includes divine arrangements, natural laws, and traditional interpretations associated with past actions.

These five elements collectively highlight that success is not solely reliant on individual effort but is a combination of various factors, including personal determination and external influences.
