Instagram Tests Reels-First Experience in India

Instagram is piloting a new interface for select users in India, where short-form video content continues to thrive. Under this experiment, users opening the app will land directly on the Reels feed by default.

  • Stories remain accessible at the top of the screen

  • Direct Messages can be reached through a simple swipe

  • A new “Following” tab offers three views:

This layout is designed to make Reels and messaging more prominent, reflecting Instagram’s growing focus on these areas. Globally, Instagram now has 3 billion monthly active users, with Reels being reshared over 4.5 billion times daily across Meta platforms.

Facebook Strengthens Creator-Fan Connections

On Facebook, Meta is rolling out Fan Challenges, allowing users to create content inspired by their favourite creators’ prompts. These appear directly in feeds, and the best entries are featured on leaderboards, giving fans new ways to showcase creativity and engage with creators.

Additionally, Facebook is expanding its Top Fan Badges with custom versions that fans can display on creator pages and personal profiles. Artists such as Cardi B and Ed Sheeran are already using these badges to deepen fan engagement.

With more than 500 million fans holding badges globally, Meta expects these updates to build stronger community ties and increase fan participation.
