Andhra Pradesh Launches Indias First Indigenous Quantum Computing Testing Facility

Amaravati, April 9: On April 14, in celebration of ‘World Quantum Day,’ Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will officially inaugurate India’s first indigenous quantum computing testing facility at SRM University in Amaravati. He will also virtually launch the quantum facility center located at Medha Towers near Vijayawada.

The state government has announced that Andhra Pradesh will be the first state to establish such a center, positioning Amaravati as an international hub for quantum computing, known as Quantum Valley.

During the event, the Chief Minister will witness the initiation of a live quantum system. The cooling process for the processor will be virtually commenced on the Amaravati 1Q system, which is installed at Medha Towers. Additionally, the Amaravati 1S system will operate as an open-access setup, fully visible to attendees during the demonstration.

With the establishment of the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility (AQRF), India now possesses its sovereign quantum infrastructure. A senior official stated that Amaravati has become the central hub of the national quantum hardware network, enabling India to design, test, certify, and manufacture quantum systems for global use.

The technologies developed through AQRF include cryogenics, precision electronics, and quantum-grade fabrication, which will provide strategic advantages in sectors such as defense, healthcare, and semiconductor manufacturing.

Under the National Quantum Mission, IBM’s 133-qubit quantum computer will be installed in Amaravati Quantum Valley. Furthermore, it has partnered with over 80 industrial and academic institutions, making it one of the top five quantum centers in the world.

The launch of AQRF on ‘World Quantum Day’ adds an indigenous hardware dimension to Amaravati Quantum Valley’s portfolio, further empowering its existing quantum cloud, skill development, and innovation infrastructure.

Providing more details about the event, the Chief Minister’s secretary, P.S. Pradyumna, remarked that this is a dream come true for the people of Andhra Pradesh. Thanks to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s initiative, the country’s first indigenous quantum computing testing facility will become a reality on April 14.

He emphasized that the Chief Minister has placed special importance on establishing a complete ecosystem in Amaravati related to the manufacturing of indigenous hardware components to promote quantum technology. SRM University has made significant contributions in this direction and has made the facility accessible to students.

The secretary also noted that for over three decades, people have enjoyed the benefits of computer technology, and now it is time to advance towards artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technology.

He further stated that the Chief Minister has emphasized the need to update the skills of youth to meet the demands of emerging quantum technology. Following his call, millions of students have enrolled in skill training programs. At the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai alone, 250,000 students have registered for training.
