Mehbooba Mufti Celebrates Progress of AIIMS in Awantipora

Srinagar, June 5: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti expressed her satisfaction regarding the construction of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Awantipora. After inspecting the site, she shared her pride in seeing a project that embodies the dreams of her late father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, coming to fruition.

Mufti acknowledged that while there had been delays and various challenges affecting progress, construction is now advancing rapidly, and the situation is satisfactory.

She emphasized the urgent need to strengthen healthcare services in Jammu and Kashmir, citing serious health challenges in the region. Notably, she pointed out the rising cases of diseases like cancer and stated that the institute will not only provide treatment but also facilitate research, aiding in the development of better health policies in the future.

Additionally, she mentioned that a significant number of doctors and nurses would be recruited at this center, creating job opportunities for local youth.

Mehbooba Mufti expressed hope that this institute will become a model healthcare center for all of Jammu and Kashmir, offering patients a better environment and modern facilities. She noted that the natural surroundings of Awantipora would also contribute positively to patients’ recovery, benefiting them both mentally and physically.

She urged that local residents should be prioritized for non-technical and support positions to ensure direct benefits for the community. Mufti also highlighted some local issues related to ongoing construction, mentioning that the proximity to the river and limited space has caused inconvenience for residents. She assured that she would discuss these concerns with the divisional commissioner to seek solutions and alleviate the difficulties faced by the people.

Mufti concluded by stating that this project will not only enhance healthcare services but also create new educational and employment opportunities. According to her, the institute is expected to be fully operational within the next one to two years, marking a significant achievement for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
