Maulana Arshad Madani Voices Concerns Over Johar University Demolition

Lucknow, July 18: Maulana Arshad Madani, the national president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, expressed deep concerns regarding the current social and political climate in the country. He stated that the politics of hatred is weakening the nation. Criticizing the actions against Johar University in Rampur, he emphasized that if there are any irregularities, fines should be imposed under the law, but demolishing the university is not a solution.

During a media interaction after addressing the Hindu-Muslim Unity Conference at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Center, Madani remarked that a climate of hatred is being fostered in the country. He believes that this fire can only be extinguished with love and compassion. He urged for a collective effort to suppress divisive voices and work together for national progress.

On the ongoing actions against Johar University, he noted that it has been politicized. While Azam Khan may be a political figure, the university is named after Maulana Mohammad Ali Johar, who made significant contributions to the country and society. Therefore, demolishing the university is inappropriate. He reiterated that if there are legal issues, the government should impose fines or take action according to the law, but it is not right to destroy buildings linked to the futures of thousands of students.

Regarding the Gyanvapi dispute, Madani suggested that if a resolution cannot be reached through dialogue, the court should provide a final decision on the matter.

He also labeled the One Nation-One Election initiative as a political agenda, stating that there are attempts to widen the gap between Hindus and Muslims, even though all religions promote love and humanity. He emphasized that the meaning of “Allahu Akbar” is “God is the greatest,” while others hold “Om” in the highest regard. Respect for faith should be maintained, and it should not become a subject of controversy.

Madani asserted that Islam promotes love, not violence or hatred. He encouraged people to read and understand the Quran, which does not advocate for violence or hatred. He claimed that this understanding is attracting many people to Islam worldwide.

On the issue of paper leaks, Madani stressed that the future of students should be the top priority. He pointed out that repeated leaks are affecting millions of students, urging the government to take this matter seriously. In response to the question of making “Vande Mataram” mandatory, he stated that the constitution grants every citizen the right to practice their religion, and this constitutional spirit should be respected.

Madani concluded by stating that he and his organization do not engage in electoral politics. Their aim is to promote love, harmony, and national unity. He said, “Whether we exist or not, the message of love and compassion must continue.”
