New Delhi, May 6: BJP MP Manoj Tiwari launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her refusal to resign following her party’s electoral defeat. He accused her of demonstrating an anti-democratic mindset and disregarding constitutional norms.
In an interview with a news agency, Tiwari stated that there is no provision requiring a chief minister to remain in office after losing political legitimacy. He emphasized that the Constitution provides a clear and dignified process for the transfer of power.
“There is no other option. If resigning meant losing the chief minister’s position, many would never resign. However, that is not the case. This country operates under the Constitution, which also allows for dignified resignations. The process is simple: you sign off, maintaining your dignity, and it shows you believe in democracy. When a confidence vote occurs in the assembly, the government will be formed based on who has the majority,” he explained.
Tiwari further asserted, “I believe Mamata is showcasing her negativity. She is revealing her opposition to democracy and the Constitution. We are pleased that this aspect of her character is coming to light for the people of the country and West Bengal.”
Responding to reports of violence and vandalism in West Bengal, as well as strict directives from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Tiwari accused the ruling party’s workers of having a history of political violence.
“She is known for resorting to violence. In the last election, hundreds were killed, and many women and girls faced indignities. While there have been sporadic incidents, this is the first major case of such violence, and it certainly deserves severe punishment,” he stated.
Targeting Trinamool Congress leaders, Tiwari remarked, “They have their whole lives to perform. Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata can continue their theatrics. Democracy and the Constitution do not depend on anyone’s drama.”
He also referenced recent political statements regarding Sanatan Dharma, expressing support for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
“Chief Minister Yogi stated that anyone who insults Sanatan will face defeat, and there is no doubt about it. Self-respect is paramount. Bengal and Tamil Nadu are examples of this. MK Stalin and his son made statements against Sanatan, but they faced defeat themselves. I, along with the entire nation, agree with Yogi Adityanath’s statement,” he concluded.
