Agartala, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted the crucial role of teachers in shaping society and building a knowledge-based India during a Teachers’ Day event in Agartala on September 6. He stressed that education should prioritize character development alongside career preparation for students.
Speaking at the 65th Teachers’ Day celebration at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, Saha noted that the vision for a ‘developed India’ hinges on the knowledge, guidance, and dedication of educators. He remarked, “The importance and contribution of teachers in building society are paramount. The teaching profession is noble and a matter of pride. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India, always took pride in identifying himself as a teacher, with his multifaceted career grounded in the ideals of teaching and education.”
Saha, who also oversees the primary and secondary education department, emphasized that Dr. Radhakrishnan’s philosophy continues to guide future generations, while his educational principles have opened new horizons for social change. He urged current teachers to provide genuine education to students, guiding them towards excellence through knowledge.
Historically, Saha noted, India was among the world’s leading nations in various fields, including knowledge, science, and culture. He called for a revival of that glory. He also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on preserving the country’s rich heritage while promoting development, encapsulated in the mantra of “Heritage and Development.”
Saha praised the National Education Policy introduced by Modi, which aims to steer the country’s education system in the right direction. He highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance the learning process by integrating technology into education.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the true purpose of education is to transcend boundaries and pave the way for opportunities. He advocated for education that fosters good character and responsible citizenship, emphasizing the need to expand access to education and develop students’ skills through knowledge.
“True and quality education is the path to prosperity,” Saha stated, urging for stronger educational frameworks at all levels. He called for an environment conducive to learning, new thinking, and holistic development to strengthen human resources.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, Secretary of the Education Department Dr. Milind Ramtek, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura National Law University Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University Dr. Bibhas Deb, and Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (Agartala) Abhay Kumar.
