Imphal, May 30: In response to global conditions, the Manipur government has made significant decisions regarding fuel conservation and cost-cutting measures.
A senior official from the Chief Minister‘s Office (CMO) reported that a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh at the Civil Secretariat in Ministerpukhri focused on several crucial decisions aimed at prudent management of fuel and government expenses.
The government has decided to reduce the size of VIP convoys, implement a ‘work from home’ arrangement for government officials following a security review, ban foreign trips at government expense, and cut unnecessary government expenditures. These measures are expected to lessen the burden on the state’s treasury and save fuel.
Additionally, a major decision related to the health department was taken during the cabinet meeting. Approval was granted to fill 173 positions for Assistant Nurses and Midwives in the Family Welfare Department, with financial assistance from the central government.
Furthermore, the government has decided to grant a two-year age relaxation for future recruitments in various state departments, providing more opportunities for youth in government jobs.
The cabinet also approved compensation rates for land acquisition for the expansion of the Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur national highways. The government believes this will expedite highway projects and strengthen connectivity in the state.
Additionally, the restructuring of positions in the Manipur State Power Company Limited was approved to enhance promotion opportunities for employees.
The cabinet also approved an extension for the ‘Manipur Water Supply Project’ funded by the New Development Bank and the ‘Loktak Experience Project’ to develop Loktak Lake as a world-class tourist destination.
