Hyderabad, May 30: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has outlined a strategic action plan aimed at protecting the votes of vulnerable groups, including Dalits, minorities, tribals, and migrant workers, during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. This revision is set to commence next month in Telangana.
During a meeting of the Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) at Gandhi Bhavan, the Chief Minister warned that the SIR could pose significant challenges for Lambada, tribal, and migrant worker communities.
Reddy noted, “A large number of individuals have migrated to other areas in several assembly and parliamentary constituencies. The possibility of Dalits, minorities, and women losing their votes in the SIR cannot be overlooked.”
He has directed party leadership to appoint SIR coordinators for all 119 assembly and 17 parliamentary constituencies. The Chief Minister emphasized that these coordinators must regularly visit their respective constituencies.
“We can ensure that not a single vote is lost if the coordinators fulfill their responsibilities,” he stated. Reddy highlighted the positive aspect of Congress leaders and workers gaining a better understanding of the SIR process.
Congress leaders are also recognizing the potential difficulties that the SIR may impose on the general public, the poor, and party workers. Reddy stressed the need for Congress to develop a comprehensive understanding of the issues arising from the SIR.
He called for the inclusion of advice and suggestions from former presidents of the Pradesh Congress Committee. The Chief Minister urged caution to ensure that votes of those who have migrated elsewhere are not lost.
Meetings related to the SIR should be organized based on assembly constituencies within the 15 electoral areas that fall within Hyderabad’s city limits. Members of the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council should be assigned specific responsibilities within the Hyderabad region.
Reddy appealed to all Congress leaders to proceed with a spirit of coordination. He also suggested that the Women’s Congress hold cluster-wise SIR meetings.
He instructed the responsible ministers to dedicate one full day every ten days specifically for party-related activities. The Chief Minister further mentioned that they should conduct grassroots visits and engage personally with party workers.
Reddy plans to meet with Congress officials at the village level every ten days and will dedicate three days each month entirely to Congress officials.
