New Delhi, February 25: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi. The Chief Minister led a three-member delegation from the state government.

The delegation included the state’s two Deputy Chief Ministers, Nemcha Kipgen from the BJP and Loci Dikho from the Naga People’s Front (NPF). Notably, Nemcha Kipgen is the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, hailing from Kangpokpi district.

This meeting marked Chief Minister Khemchand Singh’s first formal interaction with the Prime Minister since taking office on February 4. During the meeting, the Chief Minister provided a comprehensive overview of various steps taken by the state government to establish peace, harmony, and social unity in Manipur. He addressed ongoing challenges and emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable development and a harmonious environment in both hilly and valley regions.

The Chief Minister particularly highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment. He urged the Prime Minister to focus on empowering women in both hilly and valley areas of Manipur, specifically in education, health, employment, and self-employment sectors. He stated that integrating women into the mainstream would significantly contribute to social stability and economic progress in the state.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Loci Dikho, formally invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur. They expressed hope that the Prime Minister’s visit would accelerate efforts towards peace and development and strengthen coordination between the central and state governments.

Prime Minister Modi praised the efforts of the Manipur government and assured that the central government would provide all possible support. He engaged in an in-depth discussion on issues related to peace restoration, development projects, and women’s empowerment.

This meeting comes at a time when Manipur has been facing ethnic tensions and incidents of violence. Following the formation of the new government, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh has prioritized peace restoration. Efforts are being intensified to bring the state back on track through dialogue among various communities, women’s empowerment, and development initiatives.
