Manipur Chief Minister Reviews Jiribam-Imphal Railway Project Progress

Imphal, March 8: Senior officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), led by General Manager (Construction) Ashish Bansal, met with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to discuss the progress of the crucial 111-kilometer Jiribam-Imphal railway project. The meeting took place on Saturday, as reported by officials.

An officer from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated that Bansal and other railway officials provided updates on the construction and development of the railway line connecting Jiribam, near Assam, to the state capital, Imphal.

In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister mentioned, “The delegation from NFR Construction (Maligaon) met with me at the Secretariat. They updated me on the latest progress of the railway line connecting Imphal, which is a landmark infrastructure project for the state.”

He emphasized that the completion of this railway line would significantly enhance Manipur’s transport infrastructure, improve connectivity, and ensure a more efficient and secure supply chain. “This transformative project will greatly assist in making life easier for our people, in line with the vision of our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he added.

The Chief Minister also assured that the state government is fully prepared to provide all necessary support to complete this vital infrastructure project on time for the development and prosperity of Manipur.

According to NFR officials, the Jiribam-Imphal railway project, costing ₹21,885 crore, has already achieved nearly 90 percent physical progress. They noted that upon completion, the railway line is expected to significantly boost tourism, promote industrial growth, create job opportunities, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the state.

Once completed, Imphal will become the fifth capital city in the northeastern region with a railway link, joining Dispur, Agartala, Itanagar, and Aizawl.

Meanwhile, Governor Anusuiya Uikey recently visited Noney district to inspect the world’s tallest railway pier bridge being constructed over the Ijei River. This bridge is part of the Jiribam-Imphal railway project and will play a crucial role in connecting the state capital to the national railway network.

During the visit, railway engineers briefed the governor on the ongoing construction work, stating that the bridge is nearing completion and is expected to be finished soon. Uikey praised the engineers for their efforts and encouraged them to continue working diligently for the greater good of the state’s residents.
