Kolkata, April 9: The upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal pose a significant challenge not only for the Trinamool Congress but also for the state’s residents. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed on Wednesday that if the BJP comes to power, everyone will be forced to adopt a vegetarian diet.
Addressing an election rally in Shrirampur, Hooghly district, CM Banerjee stated, “We must win this battle at all costs. Otherwise, the consumption of non-vegetarian items like eggs, meat, and fish will be banned. The future of the next generation in our state will be pushed into darkness, so vote wisely. Do not allow the BJP to enter.”
Commenting on the increased activities of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the state, the Chief Minister alleged that these agencies were chosen solely to harass Trinamool Congress leaders before the elections.
“Have you ever seen the CBI or ED pursuing a CPI(M) leader? The reason is that CPI(M) leadership has aligned itself with the BJP. Why do these central agencies always target us? Because they know that the people of West Bengal stand with us, and we do not learn to give up easily,” she asserted.
She also mentioned that the supply of cooking gas in West Bengal had been maintained in light of the upcoming assembly elections, but it is certain that these provisions will cease after the elections. “The BJP is preparing to ruin the entire country,” she warned.
On this occasion, she indirectly acknowledged that her personal electoral battle from the Bhawanipur assembly constituency in South Kolkata might be a bit challenging, as many voters’ names have been removed from the electoral rolls.
“I filed my nomination today from Bhawanipur. Many names have been removed, but it does not concern me. I live with the people of Bhawanipur 365 days a year. I trust the voters there,” she stated.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress released a list of star campaigners for the second phase of elections in West Bengal, scheduled for April 29. The list included the same names as those in the first phase, with Mamata Banerjee and the party’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, being the top two names.
