Kolkata, March 13: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the establishment of the West Bengal Traders Welfare Board (WBTWB) on Thursday, aimed at the overall welfare of the trading community in the state.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, CM Banerjee stated that this initiative was a long-standing demand of the traders.
“I am delighted to announce the formation and notification of the West Bengal Traders Welfare Board (WBTWB), a promise I made during the State Traders Convention and Business and Industry Conclave in December 2025. We fulfill our commitments! This has been a long-standing demand of our trading community. My heartfelt congratulations to them,” she said.
The board is designed to facilitate communication between the traders’ community and the state government.
“The board will provide an institutional platform for regular dialogue and coordination between the trading community and the government, with representation from every district in the state. It will work to address the concerns of millions of traders,” she added.
The Chief Minister further explained that the chairperson of the board will be the president of the Confederation of West Bengal Traders Association (CWBTA), which is the largest body representing traders in the state, ensuring strong representation for the community.
“Our traders are the backbone of Bengal’s economy. We are committed to standing with them and working together to create a stronger, more vibrant economic future for our state,” she emphasized.
Earlier in the day, Banerjee inaugurated a new 10-story B.C. Roy Memorial Building at N.R.S. Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata to enhance patient care. The total financial outlay for this project is ₹148 crores.
Additionally, she announced the construction of a new building by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences in Salt Lake, Kolkata, with a total financial cost of ₹102.75 crores. This building will house offices and provide space for academic seminars and other essential activities.
