Chennai, May 19: The makers of the film ‘Karuppu’, starring actor Suriya, have issued an apology to composer Ilaiyaraaja over a controversial dialogue used in the movie. Following Ilaiyaraaja’s displeasure regarding the dialogue, the production house, Dream Warrior Pictures, clarified their stance.
They stated that there was no intention to disrespect Ilaiyaraaja’s contributions or rights in any form. In an official statement, they expressed, “We regret that a dialogue in the film hurt Ilaiyaraaja’s sentiments. We fully respect his feelings.”
The controversy arose from a specific dialogue in the courtroom action drama directed by R.J. Balaji. The makers explained that the dialogue was meant to be satirical, but they apologized if it caused any offense.
They further added, “In expressing our respect for Ilaiyaraaja, we will be removing or altering that dialogue in all future versions of the film and its subsequent uses.”
The production house praised Ilaiyaraaja for his contributions to Indian cinema and music, noting that he has inspired generations with his artistry and holds a special place in the hearts of audiences worldwide.
In ‘Karuppu’, Suriya stars alongside Trisha Krishnan and R.J. Balaji. The film’s music is composed by Sai Abhyankar. Despite a one-day delay in its release due to financial issues, the film has had a fantastic opening and is performing well at the box office.
Director R.J. Balaji made a special appeal to audiences and theater staff in a post on Monday. He urged that if any viewer becomes overly emotional, cheers, or experiences strong feelings while watching the film, they should be treated with kindness and respect.
Balaji stated, “If someone sitting next to you appears affected, please support them and inform the theater staff immediately.” He also requested theater owners to prepare their staff for such sensitive moments.
