Mumbai, August 27: Acclaimed actress Himani Shivpuri, who has carved a niche in the hearts of audiences through her performances in television and films, took to social media on Thursday to reminisce about her early days. She shared that her cinematic journey began with a role as a flower seller on stage.
In her Instagram post, Shivpuri shared a photo of herself standing in front of a poster from her play. She revealed that playing the flower seller in the NSD Repertory’s successful play “Ajar Ka Khwab” marked the start of a new chapter in her life.
Shivpuri wrote, “This play, ‘Ajar Ka Khwab,’ directed by Bhanu Bharti, is based on George Bernard Shaw’s famous play ‘Pygmalion.’ I portrayed Hajjo, a flower-selling girl transformed into a lady by Professor Higgins, played by Namdev. The image features Dolly Ahluwalia, Namdev, and Ravi Khanvilkar. This was one of the most successful plays of the NSD Repertory, and it was after watching this play that Sooraj Barjatya decided to cast me in the film ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun,’ which marked the beginning of my career in Hindi cinema.”
In the 1994 film “Hum Aapke Hain Koun,” Shivpuri played the memorable character Razia (Chachi Jaan), which was widely appreciated by audiences.
The film celebrates the traditions of Indian weddings, family values, and the beauty of relationships. It intertwines the love story of Prem and Nisha with themes of sacrifice and familial duty. “Hum Aapke Hain Koun” became one of the biggest blockbusters of its time, breaking box office records.
The film featured prominent actors such as Salman Khan (Prem), Madhuri Dixit (Nisha), Mohnish Bahl, Renuka Shahane, Anupam Kher, and Reema Lagoo.
