Major Train Robbery Gang Busted in Bihar, Jewelry Worth ₹1 Crore Seized

Patna, March 19: A significant train robbery gang has been dismantled following a joint operation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Bhagalpur. An official confirmed the details of the operation.

During the raid, approximately ₹1 crore worth of gold and silver jewelry was recovered from a rented house in the Maheshpur area of the Babarganj police station. The haul included 500 grams of gold and 1.5 kilograms of silver.

Two main suspects, Sanjay Yadav and Palatu Sahani, have been arrested. Railway SRP Vidyasagar reported that GRP Inspector Naseem Ahmed received information about suspicious activities around 4:45 AM on Thursday, prompting a joint operation with RPF Inspector A.K. Giri.

Initially, nothing was found during the search, but suspicion arose during an inspection of the Jamalpur-Howrah Express. During interrogation, Sanjay Yadav provided crucial information that led police to the hideout in Maheshpur.

Upon raiding the rented premises, a large stash of hidden jewelry was discovered in a secret compartment of a room. The seized items included gold bangles, chains, pendants, pearl necklaces, bracelets, maang tikka, silver anklets, and other valuables.

Foreign currency from the USA, Malaysia, and Australia was also recovered. SP Vidyasagar indicated that Sanjay Yadav, a resident of Bariyarpur in Munger district, is suspected of having connections to an international criminal network, while Palatu Sahani is from Parbatta Raghupur.

During questioning, the suspects named two local jewelers, who are now under investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the gang used razor blades for pickpocketing and theft on trains. A blade was also recovered from the suspects.

Authorities believe the gang has around 15 members, and operations to apprehend other individuals involved are ongoing. Officials have urged passengers to remain vigilant and assured that GRP and RPF teams are increasing surveillance on trains and at railway stations.

They expressed hope that this action would curb criminal activities and enhance passenger safety on the railways.
