Major Surrender of 27 Maoists in Jharkhand Marks Historic Success for Security Forces

Ranchi, May 21: In a significant achievement for the anti-Naxal campaign in Jharkhand, security forces witnessed their largest success to date. A total of 27 Maoists, including 25 long-active members from the Saranda and Kolhan regions and two militants from the banned organization JJMP, surrendered at the police headquarters in Ranchi on Thursday. This event is considered the largest mass surrender in the state’s history in a single day.

During a ceremony attended by DGP Tadasha Mishra and senior officials from the police and CRPF, these Maoists decided to abandon their weapons and return to mainstream society. Among the surrendering individuals, eight hardcore Maoists had bounties placed on their heads by the government. This includes six individuals with a reward of five lakh rupees, one with a two lakh rupee bounty, and a female Maoist with a reward of one lakh rupees.

According to police reports, the surrendered militants face a total of 426 serious charges across various police stations in the state. These charges include murder, attacks on police forces, extortion, explosives, and armed activities.

During the surrender, the Maoists handed over a significant cache of weapons and ammunition to the security forces. This included one LMG INSAS, four INSAS rifles, nine SLRs, one bolt-action rifle, one pistol, 31 magazines, 2,987 cartridges, and eight walkie-talkies. Influenced by the continuous operations of the security forces and the Jharkhand government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, the returnees include seven sub-zonal commanders, seven area commanders, and 13 active cadres from the CPI Maoist organization.

Notable surrendered Maoists include Gadi Munda alias Gulshan, Nagendra Munda alias Prabhat Munda, Rekha Munda alias Jayanti, Sagen Angaria alias Dokol, and Suleman Hansda alias Suni Hansda. Sachin Bek from the JJMP organization also laid down his arms.

Additionally, several other militants, including Darshan alias Binj Hansda, Karan Tiyu alias Dangur, Basumati Jerai alias Basu, Baijnath Munda, Raghu Kayam alias Guna, Kishore Sirka alias Durga Sirka, and Ram Dayal Munda, have returned to mainstream society.

Among the female cadres who surrendered are Vandana alias Shanti, Sunita Sardar, Sapna alias Suru Kalundia, and Anisha Koda alias Rani. Police officials stated that all surrendered Maoists will receive financial assistance and rehabilitation facilities under the state government’s rehabilitation policy.

In addition, a separate amount will be provided for the weapons surrendered. The surrender ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including IG Pankaj Kamboj, IG Prabhat Kumar, IG Sunil Bansal, IG Aseem Vikrant Minj, IG Anup Birathre, IG Mayur Patel Kanhaiyalal, DIG Indrajit Mahtha, DIG Manoj Ratan Chauthe, DIG Kartik S, Shailendra Varmawal, SSP Rakesh Ranjan, SP Harish Bin Jama, and SP Saurabh.
