New Delhi, June 8: Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress and a Member of Parliament, has submitted his response to the notice issued by the CID of West Bengal Police. He has requested additional time to appear at the CID office in South Kolkata for questioning related to the signature mismatch case.
This case was registered after several Trinamool legislators complained about forged signatures on government documents submitted to the West Bengal Assembly.
After failing to appear at the CID office on June 1, Abhishek Banerjee received a new notice from the state investigation agency, instructing him to present himself by Monday afternoon.
However, he departed from Kolkata to New Delhi on Saturday afternoon to attend a meeting of the opposition ‘INDIA’ alliance scheduled for Monday. His aunt, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is also currently in Delhi for this meeting.
Sources from the state police indicated that it became clear on Saturday afternoon that Abhishek Banerjee would not visit the CID office, as he had already left for Delhi. Nonetheless, on Monday, he sent a formal message to the CID requesting more time to appear for questioning.
In his message, Abhishek Banerjee informed the CID about his presence in Delhi on Monday and mentioned the important hearing scheduled on June 10 in the Calcutta High Court‘s single-judge vacation bench regarding his petition. This petition challenges the CID’s summons and seeks protection from any stringent action, including arrest, related to the case.
Last week, when he approached the Calcutta High Court to challenge the CID summons and seek protection, he also filed a request for a fast-track hearing of the case.
