Jaipur, June 8: Senior BJP leaders Satish Poonia and Alka Singh Gurjar submitted their nomination papers on Monday for two Rajya Sabha seats from Rajasthan.
Before filing his nomination, Satish Poonia offered prayers at the renowned Shri Govind Dev Ji Temple in Jaipur, seeking blessings from the city’s chief deity.
Sharing this moment on social media, Poonia expressed his gratitude for the blessings received at the temple.
During the nomination filing, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, and Dr. Prem Chand Baidawat, along with Rajasthan BJP President Madan Rathore, senior party leaders, public representatives, and party workers were present.
Dr. Alka Singh Gurjar also filed her nomination papers in the presence of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, BJP State President Madan Rathore, and other senior party leaders.
Prior to submitting their nominations, both candidates met with Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma at the BJP state headquarters.
CM Bhajanlal Sharma posted on social media, wishing both BJP Rajya Sabha candidates, Satish Poonia and Alka Singh Gurjar, the best of luck during their nomination process. He expressed confidence that under PM Modi’s visionary leadership and the guidance of BJP National President Nitin Naveen, they would effectively represent Rajasthan’s aspirations and development issues in the Rajya Sabha.
The terms of Central Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, BJP MP Rajendra Gehlot, and Congress MP Neeraj Dangi will end on June 21. Based on the current party strength in the Rajasthan Assembly, it is almost certain that the BJP will secure two seats, while Congress is expected to win the third seat. Voting for the three Rajya Sabha seats from Rajasthan will take place on June 18.
Political analysts believe that the selection of Poonia, a prominent Jat leader, and Gurjar, a well-established Gurjar face, is a strategic move to strengthen support between these two electorally significant groups in Rajasthan. Both the Jat and Gurjar communities hold influence in several assembly constituencies, and this step by the BJP aims to counter the strong leaders of Congress.
This social balance is also linked to the party’s preparations for the 2028 state elections.
With a strong majority in the Rajasthan Assembly, it is expected that both Satish Poonia and Alka Singh Gurjar will achieve victory in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
