
Jammu, June 20: In a significant crackdown on drug abuse and organized crime in Jammu and Kashmir, police have arrested three individuals in Jammu. This operation is part of the ongoing campaign for a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir. Awareness programs were also held in Avantipora, where cannabis cultivation was destroyed.
The Gandhi Nagar police in Jammu seized 260 grams of heroin, along with weapons and ammunition, during their operation against drug trafficking. The arrested individuals have been identified as Aftab Bhatt from Gujjar Nagar, Chanchal Singh from Shastri Nagar, and Anup Singh Jasrotia from Krishna Colony in Kathua.
According to police reports, the operation resulted in the recovery of 260 grams of heroin, two pistols, two homemade guns, a revolver, and a sharp weapon (kirch). A case has been registered at the Gandhi Nagar police station, and an investigation is underway. The Jammu police have stated that efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and organized crime in the region will continue unabated.
Meanwhile, as part of the drug-free Jammu and Kashmir initiative, an awareness program was conducted at Abu Turab Public School in Hariprigam, Avantipora. Students were educated about the harmful effects of drugs and their social, legal, and health-related consequences. Teachers and students were urged to spread awareness against drug abuse in society.
Additionally, a special operation was conducted in the Khrew police area in collaboration with the revenue department, leading to the identification and destruction of cannabis cultivation in accordance with the law.
The police and district administration have affirmed that actions against drug abuse and illegal cultivation will persist under the drug-free Jammu and Kashmir campaign.
