Lucknow, June 19: Samajwadi Party MLA Ravidas Mehrotra launched a strong attack on the BJP government on various issues during a press conference on Thursday. He highlighted the demand for an investigation into the bank accounts of rebel MLAs from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, the actions of central agencies against opposition parties, statements by Himachal Pradesh Governor Kovid Gupta regarding Pakistan, the Delhi High Court’s decision on the Telegram case, the Brahmin conference organized by the SP, and the controversy surrounding the alleged theft of donation papers at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Regarding the demand for an investigation into the TMC’s bank accounts, Mehrotra alleged that it is a part of the BJP’s political strategy. He stated that the BJP is engaged in a vendetta to weaken opposition parties. He claimed that the rebel TMC MLAs are calling for the investigation at the behest of the BJP. Mehrotra accused the BJP government of continuously attempting to divide and weaken opposition parties.
He further stated that the BJP is using central investigative agencies as political tools. Mehrotra asserted that the CBI, ED, and Income Tax Department are being employed to intimidate opposition parties and undermine them through the power of the state. He expressed concern that the BJP aims to eliminate opposition in the country, creating a situation akin to an undeclared emergency and attempting to govern through dictatorship.
In response to Governor Kovid Gupta’s statement about conditions in Pakistan resembling those of 1971, Mehrotra remarked that after the Pulwama terrorist attack, the Indian Army effectively targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan. He claimed that if the Indian government had not declared a ceasefire under U.S. pressure, the situation in Pakistan could have worsened. He praised the bravery of the Indian Army but criticized the central government for its weakness.
On the Delhi High Court’s dismissal of the Telegram petition, he emphasized the importance of respecting judicial decisions. Mehrotra stated that the High Court’s ruling should be welcomed, and there should be respect for the decisions of both the High Court and the Supreme Court rather than opposition to them.
Discussing the Brahmin conference organized by the Samajwadi Party, Mehrotra noted that the SP respects all religions and castes. He accused the BJP government of continuously insulting the Brahmin community, leading to growing discontent against the BJP among Brahmins. He mentioned that the SP had organized a significant conference for the Brahmin community, and people across the state are standing with the SP in their struggle. The party has vowed to fight for justice wherever there is injustice or disrespect towards the Brahmin community.
In response to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s comments regarding the investigation into alleged irregularities in donations at the Ram Temple, Mehrotra made serious allegations against the BJP. He claimed that theft of donations and other valuable items from the Ram Temple has been occurring for a long time. He alleged that the CCTV cameras in the temple premises had been turned off prior to these incidents. Mehrotra pointed out that no proper FIR has been filed, nor have any responsible individuals faced action. He called for a fair investigation into the role of the BJP and its affiliates in this matter.
When questioned about the Ram Temple issue by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who raised concerns about Congress and the SP, Mehrotra clarified that the temple is being constructed by a trust formed following a Supreme Court order. He stated that the BJP claims credit for the temple’s construction, while the process was conducted under the court’s decision and the trust’s arrangements. Mehrotra accused the BJP of attempting to divert public attention by blaming the opposition instead of conducting an investigation. He concluded by asserting that if allegations of donation theft and financial irregularities have surfaced, a fair investigation should be conducted, and action should be taken against the guilty parties.
