Major Land Scam Allegations Rock Ujjain, Claims Opposition Leader

Bhopal, June 23: The Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Umang Singhar, has accused the state of being embroiled in the largest land scam in its history, centered in the religious city of Ujjain. In a social media post referencing media reports, Singhar stated, “The biggest land scam in Madhya Pradesh’s history has come to light. The government designs Ujjain’s development plan later, while the Chief Minister’s family has already seized 253 acres of land worth crores.” He criticized the government for allegedly distributing the profits from roads built with taxpayers’ money among their own.

Singhar asserted that Ujjain’s “master plan” was redesigned not for the city’s development but to benefit Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s family real estate business. He claimed that the groundwork for this massive exploitation was laid while Yadav served as a minister in 2021. Following his ascension to the Chief Minister’s position in December 2023, the development map was allegedly altered to favor the plots already acquired by his family.

The opposition leader alleged that Yadav, during his tenure as Higher Education Minister from 2021 to 2023, was aware of the government’s plans for new roads and major infrastructure projects in Ujjain. During this period, he reportedly acquired around 44 plots and 85 acres of land, in addition to the 82 acres already owned by his family.

Singhar claimed that the real manipulation occurred after the master plan was introduced in May 2023. Once Yadav became Chief Minister in December 2023, the government allegedly used its machinery to reroute development plans, new roads, highways, and pathways adjacent to the land already purchased by Yadav’s family. Following his tenure, over 137 plots and 168 acres were reportedly acquired in just two years, indicating a severe case of insider trading, abuse of power, and rampant corruption. He lamented that unemployed youth in Madhya Pradesh are suffering while the government operates as a family-run real estate agency.

Demanding Yadav’s resignation, Singhar stated, “This is not development; it is an open game played under the guise of power. The Chief Minister should resign on moral grounds. The people of Madhya Pradesh will not tolerate this looting.”
