Rajasthan Urban Local Body Elections: State Election Commission Holds Meeting with Political Parties

Jaipur, August 21: A meeting was held on Friday at the state election commission’s conference room in the government secretariat, chaired by Rajasthan State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh. The meeting aimed to review preparations for the upcoming urban local body elections.

During the meeting, the commission discussed in detail the arrangements being made to conduct the elections in an independent, fair, transparent, and peaceful manner. Representatives of political parties were informed about key aspects of the urban local body elections, including important provisions, the election schedule, voter lists, nomination processes, voting arrangements, the model code of conduct, and election expenditures.

The commission invited suggestions from political party representatives on measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the election process and sought their opinions. State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh emphasized the necessity of cooperation from all political parties to ensure free and fair elections.

Singh urged all political parties to actively contribute to strengthening the democratic process by adhering to election-related rules and guidelines. He particularly stressed the effective compliance with the model code of conduct, clarifying that all political parties and candidates must strictly follow the guidelines issued by the commission, as well as the applicable legal provisions governing the election process.

The meeting was attended by the commission’s secretary Rajesh Verma, senior officials of the state election commission, and representatives from various recognized political parties.

Elections for 309 urban local bodies in Rajasthan were announced on Wednesday at 4 PM. The state election commission will conduct the elections in two phases. Voting for the first phase will take place on September 9, and the second phase on September 11, with results to be declared on September 14. This marks the first time in Rajasthan’s history that elections for all urban local bodies will be held simultaneously.
