Patna, August 22: The Bihar Police Special Task Force (STF) has compiled a database of over 350 suspected contract killers active across the state and has initiated a special operation to apprehend them. A senior STF officer shared this information during a press conference on Friday.
Sanjay Kumar Singh, the STF DIG, stated that since January 2026, a total of 1,716 notorious criminals, including 63 with cash rewards, have been arrested. Additionally, 27 other wanted criminals were captured outside Bihar.
According to Singh, the STF’s intelligence network has successfully prevented 94 planned criminal incidents, including 40 murders, 48 robbery and theft cases, and six other criminal activities.
The STF is maintaining a district-wise database to identify and target organized crime networks. Authorities have identified alleged land mafia and are sending proposals to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for potential action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against suspected illegally acquired properties.
In the past eight months, there have been 19 encounters with criminals, resulting in the deaths of three criminals and injuries to 18 others, while two police officers lost their lives.
The STF has intensified its crackdown on gangs allegedly involved in bank, jewelry, and gold heists. This year, police have recovered nearly 10 kilograms of stolen gold, 50 kilograms of silver, and ₹11.97 lakh in cash.
The police have also solved several robbery cases outside Bihar, including a jewelry store heist in Mysuru, a robbery linked to the Dawoodnagar police station, and a bank heist at a Bank of Maharashtra branch in Koynjar. In these cases, 113 suspects have been arrested.
Furthermore, the STF has dismantled 33 illegal mini-gun factories this year. During these operations, police seized one AK-47, two INSAS rifles, 398 country-made weapons, and approximately 1,300 rounds of ammunition.
