Pune, June 19: Authorities in Pune have seized banned pan masala and flavored tobacco worth over ₹2.41 lakh in Indapur. A case has been registered against a trader at the Indapur police station.
This operation was conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which uncovered a significant stash of prohibited products. During the raid, items valued at approximately ₹2,41,140 were confiscated.
Food safety officials inspected an establishment in Indapur city, where they discovered the storage of banned pan masala and flavored tobacco, as mandated by the Maharashtra government. Various brands of tobacco products were seized immediately during the inspection.
A case has been filed against Izaan Hussain Sheikh at the Indapur police station. Legal action has been initiated under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, following the recovery of these prohibited food items.
The police are also investigating the extent of the supply and distribution network for these banned tobacco products. Authorities have stated that strict actions against the sale and storage of prohibited tobacco items will continue.
In a related incident, security forces in Mizoram recently apprehended three women involved in drug trafficking, seizing heroin valued at ₹4.75 crore. During this operation, a joint team captured the women and recovered 634 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth ₹4.755 crore in the illegal market. The seized drugs and the arrested individuals have been handed over to the Mizoram police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
