Dar es Salaam, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Leaders around the world have expressed their sorrow following the death of Hafidh Amir Hassan, the husband of Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan. He passed away on Monday due to complications from a heart attack while receiving treatment at a hospital in Zanzibar.
Vice President Deogratius Ndumbaro announced that Hassan died around 8 AM. His funeral was scheduled for the same day in Kijimkazi, Zanzibar.
Kenyan President William Ruto shared his condolences on social media platform X, expressing deep sadness over the news. He stated, “On behalf of the Kenyan government and the people, as well as my family, I extend my sympathies to President Samia, her family, and the people of Tanzania. President Samia has lost a lifelong partner, their children a beloved father, and Tanzania a distinguished son. In this moment of mourning, Kenya stands with our Tanzanian brothers and sisters. May God grant President Samia and her family comfort and strength during this difficult time, and may Hafidh Amir Hassan rest in eternal peace.”
Rwandan President Paul Kagame also conveyed his condolences, saying, “My sister, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the people of Tanzania, I express my sympathies on the passing of Hafidh Amir Hassan.” He emphasized Rwanda’s solidarity with Tanzania as they honor Hassan’s life and legacy.
Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema stated, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to President Samia Suluhu Hassan on the passing of her husband, Hafidh Amir Hassan. During this challenging time, we stand shoulder to shoulder with the first family and all citizens of the United Republic of Tanzania.”
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his sympathies as well, saying, “I convey my deepest condolences to Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan on the loss of her husband. Somalia stands with her family and the people of Tanzania in this time of sorrow. May Allah grant him paradise.”
Hafidh was an agricultural expert and had a low public profile. He married Samia in 1978, and the couple had four children.
