
Kolkata, June 19: The West Bengal police have arrested 10 more individuals in connection with the attack on the Falta police station in the South 24 Parganas district. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to 25.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari addressed the media on Friday, stating that following the arrest of Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan on June 16, a mob led by his wife, Regina Bibi, attempted to storm the Falta police station. The mob allegedly aimed to free Jahangir Khan from police custody.
The Chief Minister announced that he has instructed the administration to identify and seize the properties of those involved in the attack. These properties will be auctioned to compensate for the damages caused to public property.
He noted that charges have been filed against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 2023, including those related to anti-national activities. The Chief Minister emphasized that not only will the guilty face severe penalties, but compensation for the damage to government property will also be sourced from the seized assets.
Out of the 25 arrested individuals, 12 are currently in police custody, while 13 have been remanded to judicial custody. The police will analyze available video footage on social media to identify additional suspects and take appropriate action against them.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that the investigation into the alleged murder of BJP worker Prashant Dey by Trinamool Congress activists in Bagnan, Howrah district, will be handled by the state police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He also stated that the family of the deceased will receive a total compensation of 900,000 rupees, with 400,000 rupees coming from the state government and 500,000 rupees from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
