Haryana Expands Special NDPS Courts to Combat Drug Trafficking

Chandigarh, June 19: The Haryana government has established 13 new special NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) courts, increasing their total number to 21.

According to a government notification, one additional special NDPS court has been set up at the level of Additional Sessions Judge in Faridabad, Gurugram, Panchkula, Rohtak, and Yamunanagar.

In Fatehabad, two new special NDPS courts have been approved, bringing the total there to three.

Six new special NDPS courts have been established in Sirsa, raising the total number to seven.

Initially, two NDPS courts were set up in Sirsa and Fatehabad. Subsequently, six more courts were established in Ambala, Hisar, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, and Panipat.

Currently, eight special NDPS courts are operational, with one located in each of the following areas: Sirsa, Fatehabad, Ambala, Hisar, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, and Panipat.

The phased implementation of these new courts is expected to expedite the resolution of NDPS cases and reduce the backlog of pending cases.

Director General of Police Ajay Singhal stated that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is firm on not showing leniency towards drug traffickers who ruin the future of the state’s youth.

He emphasized that the state government is committed to eradicating the drug network. This will be achieved by strengthening law enforcement agencies, the prosecution system, and the judiciary.

The DGP noted that the police are adopting a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards drug traffickers. He mentioned that a multi-faceted strategy is being implemented to dismantle the entire drug network. This strategy includes police action, intelligence gathering, financial investigations, asset seizures, public awareness campaigns, and expedited judicial processes. Effective policing, strong investigations, swift prosecutions, and prompt justice are key components of this approach.

To gather information on drug trafficking and ensure rapid action, the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) operates a 24/7 anti-drug helpline at 90508-91508.

Residents can use this helpline to share confidential information about drug trafficking, drug sales, or any drug-related activities with the relevant agencies.

These agencies will act promptly on such information. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of the Government of India has also launched the Manas portal and helpline number 1933 across the state.
