Washington, July 28: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with President Donald Trump amid ongoing tensions with Iran. According to an announcement from the White House, Netanyahu will meet with Trump on Tuesday at a time yet to be disclosed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will also have a meeting with Trump on the same day.
The White House schedule indicates that this meeting will take place without media presence. However, Trump has a history of opening such meetings to journalists at the last minute.
Before meeting Netanyahu, Trump will first meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky, which is also planned to be a closed meeting.
Following his meeting with Netanyahu, Trump is scheduled to attend a memorial service for Republican Senator Lindsey Graham at the National Cathedral, where the Israeli Prime Minister is also expected to be present.
Upon Netanyahu’s arrival in Washington, Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., Mike Herzog, welcomed him on social media platform X, stating, “Welcome to Washington. Prime Minister Netanyahu is on another historic visit to the capital of Israel’s greatest ally. Serving as ambassador here is an honor that reaffirms the strength and commitment of our great nations to each other.”
This meeting will mark the eighth encounter between the two leaders since Trump took office for a second time last year. It will also be their first face-to-face conversation since the onset of hostilities with Iran.
Before departing from Israel, Netanyahu expressed, “It is a pleasure, but it is also a significant responsibility. We will discuss all the agenda items, primarily focusing on Iran. Clearly, our goal is to ensure our security and expand the circle of peace around us.”
In a separate development, the Iranian judiciary announced on Tuesday that two individuals convicted of violence during anti-government protests in January have been executed. The judiciary’s Mizan online portal reported, “Abul Fazl Sepahi and Amir-Hossein Safari were executed this morning. Both were found guilty of attacking police officers with knives and other weapons, binding them to road signs, dragging them on the ground, dousing them with petrol, and setting them on fire.”
According to Mizan, other charges included brandishing weapons and inciting fear and terror, which were deemed acts of corruption on Earth, severely disrupting public order and safety. The executions were carried out in public at a square in Malekshahr, located in the central Isfahan province.
