Ranchi, March 20: The police in Jharkhand’s Latehar district have achieved a significant breakthrough against an interstate drug trafficking network.
During a raid near the ‘Yummy Hotel’ on NH-39, authorities discovered approximately 190 packets of illegal marijuana, valued at around ₹2 crore in the international market. The traffickers attempted to conceal this substantial shipment by hiding it beneath layers of rice straw in the truck. However, the police’s vigilance led to the exposure of this cunning smuggling tactic.
Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav reported that the police received a tip-off about a suspicious truck parked on NH-39. To verify the information, a special team was formed under the leadership of Circle Officer Nandakumar Ram and Sub-Inspector Rahul Sinha.
Upon arrival, the police team initially found the truck to be transporting ordinary agricultural goods. However, a thorough search revealed the hidden marijuana packets beneath the straw layers. The truck, registered in Uttar Pradesh (UP 26 T 7820), was immediately seized.
At the time of the raid, no suspects or truck driver were present, leading authorities to suspect that the traffickers fled upon learning of the police’s approach. The SP indicated that this case appears to be linked to a larger interstate drug syndicate. The police are now working to identify the owner and driver based on the truck’s registration number. They are also investigating the origin of the marijuana shipment and its intended destination.
