Major Breakthrough for Gujarat ATS as Punjab Grenade Smuggler Arrested

Ahmedabad, April 5: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG), has successfully apprehended a wanted individual from Punjab in Banaskantha. This suspect is allegedly linked to a terrorist network involved in grenade smuggling and cross-border activities, officials reported on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Bikramjeet Singh, also known as Vicky, a resident of Nangal Panwan in Amritsar. He was captured at a roadside eatery in Disa, where he was working as a daily wage laborer.

Authorities stated that the operation was based on specific intelligence received from the Punjab Police. This intelligence pertained to a wanted suspect in a case registered by the Special State Operational Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar.

Senior officials from Gujarat ATS analyzed this information, leading a team to locate the suspect. An ATS officer revealed that, based on the intelligence from Punjab Police, their team tracked down the accused at a dhaba in Disa and took him into custody for further questioning. Subsequently, he was brought to Ahmedabad for interrogation.

During initial questioning, it was revealed that Bikramjeet Singh was allegedly collaborating with gangster Shahzad Bhatti and his associate Abid Jatt, who are believed to be operating from Pakistan. Investigators indicated that Singh was involved in facilitating grenade supplies and recruiting local individuals into this network.

The officer noted that he maintained a low profile while coordinating the recruitment of local operatives. Following the directives of his handlers, he played a significant role in plotting grenade attacks on police stations and other security forces.

Officials suspect that Bhatti is working for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, and is connected to terrorist activities in Punjab, including orchestrating grenade attacks on security installations and prominent figures.

In this context, the SSOC in Amritsar registered a case on April 3 under Section 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Section 25 of the Arms Act, 1959, leading to the arrest of several individuals.

Gujarat ATS has informed the Punjab Police about the arrest, and legal procedures for handing over the suspect for further investigation are underway.
