Major Boost for Varanasis Religious Heritage with Approval of 17 Projects Worth ₹19.42 Crores

Lucknow, May 6: The Yogi government has taken a significant step towards preserving the religious heritage and enhancing tourism infrastructure in the ancient spiritual city of Varanasi. Under the state plan, 17 projects worth ₹19.42 crores have been approved, aimed at revitalizing heritage sites and expanding modern facilities for tourists.

On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh’s Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh announced the approval of these projects for various assembly constituencies in Varanasi for the financial year 2025-26. The projects are to be completed in a timely and quality manner through the implementing agency, UPAVP.

Singh detailed that ₹44 lakhs have been allocated for the development of the Uttarark Aditya Surya Temple and Surya Kund, located near the City Station in North Varanasi. Additionally, ₹12 lakhs have been approved for upgrading the regional tourism office in Sarnath, and ₹1.87 crores for enhancing the tourism information center at the Cantt railway station.

Furthermore, ₹60 lakhs have been earmarked for the development of Kedar Ghat and surrounding ghats, ₹17 lakhs for the Adi Shankaracharya Math in Birdoapur, and ₹95 lakhs for the Hanuman Temple in the Pindara area. Several crore rupees have been allocated for the development of various temples and religious sites in the Sevapuri and Rohaniya areas.

The minister also announced a major project worth ₹5 crores for the overall development of key religious sites in South Varanasi, including Bharat Mata Mandir, Durga Mandir, Kal Bhairav Mandir, Sankat Mochan Mandir, Annapurna Mandir, Assi Ghat, Panchganga Ghat, and Dashashwamedh Ghat. Additionally, ₹50 lakhs have been allocated for a sound system for cultural events at Namo Ghat, and ₹2 crores for the development of the Kashi Nagari Pracharini Sabha.

Moreover, ₹1.58 crores have been approved for signage work at sites linked to the Buddhist circuit. Jaiveer Singh stated that under the guidance of the Chief Minister and the inspiration of the Prime Minister, the preservation and restoration of Kashi’s ancient heritage are being expedited. Following the construction of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, there has been a significant increase in tourist numbers, prompting a priority expansion of basic facilities.
