Major Blow to Maoists in Chhattisgarh: Four Memorials Destroyed, IEDs Seized

Raipur, March 15: In a significant operation against Maoist activities, security forces have dismantled four memorials established by Maoists in the dense forests of Kanker district. Alongside this, a large cache of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other materials linked to the insurgents were recovered.

The operation commenced in the remote forest areas of Hapa Tola and Bingunda, where joint teams conducted extensive searches to assert control over the region. These memorials, erected in honor of Maoists killed in previous encounters, served as propaganda sites for recruitment rallies and to reinforce their ideology.

Officials stated that by removing these structures, the aim of the security forces was to diminish the psychological grip of the Maoists and prevent the glorification of violence associated with these sites.

During the search operation, soldiers discovered four heavy IEDs cleverly concealed among trees and bushes. These devices were intended to target the patrolling security personnel. Bomb disposal experts safely neutralized the explosives on-site, averting potential casualties.

In addition to the IEDs, security forces seized several everyday items from the Maoists, including literature promoting their ideology and a stockpile of medicines likely intended for their cadres residing in forest hideouts.

Kanker police hailed these recoveries as a significant operational success, emphasizing how such hidden caches of weapons and symbolic sites sustain the logistics and morale of the insurgents. This action aligns with the intensified anti-Maoist campaign across Chhattisgarh, particularly in districts like Kanker, where security forces have ramped up efforts to achieve the government’s declared goal of completely eradicating left-wing extremism by March 31, 2026.

This development comes amid a broader trend of aggressive operations in the region. In recent months, a significant number of Maoist cadres have surrendered. Additionally, several similar memorials have been destroyed in other parts of Bastar, such as Bijapur and Sukma.

Security officials stress that eliminating these ideological symbols is crucial for restoring normalcy, advancing development projects, and integrating local communities into the mainstream.
