New Delhi, June 26: In response to the devastating earthquake in northern Venezuela, India has initiated ‘Operation Amistad’ as part of its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts. This operation aims to provide immediate medical support to those affected by the disaster.
A specialized medical team from the Indian Army has been dispatched to Venezuela. A 41-member team from the Indian Army’s 60 Para Field Hospital flew to Venezuela aboard two Indian Air Force aircraft. This team includes nine experienced military doctors. They will deliver emergency medical services, treat severely injured individuals, perform surgeries, manage trauma, and provide intensive care to those in need.
According to the Indian Army, the medical team has brought approximately six tons of medical supplies and humanitarian aid. This includes the advanced Bhishma Cube, developed under India’s Arogya Maitri project. The Bhishma Cube is a modular and rapidly deployable field hospital capable of providing advanced trauma care, emergency surgeries, and intensive care facilities in disaster-affected areas.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar posted on X that Operation Amistad is ongoing. He stated, “Two C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force have departed with immediate relief supplies for the earthquake-affected Venezuela. This assistance includes over 35 tons of relief materials, medicines, and medical equipment, along with two Bhishma Cubes. India stands with the Venezuelan government and its people during this challenging time and is committed to providing all possible support.”
The Bhishma Cube’s key feature is its ability to be set up quickly, providing treatment and life-saving facilities for nearly 200 patients. This system has strengthened India’s disaster response capabilities and was developed to deliver rapid assistance to various crisis-affected regions worldwide.
India’s mission goes beyond merely sending relief supplies; it symbolizes the country’s policy of standing by its friends during times of crisis. By expressing solidarity with the people of Venezuela, India has conveyed a clear message: “We are here to help you.”
