Indore, July 21: A significant asset discovery has emerged following a raid by the Lokayukt on nine properties linked to a power department engineer in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The assets, valued in the millions, exceed the engineer’s declared income by over 258%. According to the Lokayukt, Shivram Semil, who serves as the Superintending Engineer at Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company, is under scrutiny for accumulating wealth far beyond his legitimate earnings over his 33-year career.
The Lokayukt received credible information regarding Semil’s disproportionate wealth, which prompted an investigation. Upon verification, simultaneous searches were conducted at four locations in Indore, two in Pithampur, two in Dhar, and one in Morena. Among the findings was a lavish three-story residence in Silicon City, Indore, estimated to be worth around ₹1.2 crore.
Additionally, a factory named “Shubham Electrical,” registered under Semil’s son Shubham, was discovered in Pithampur, where transformers are manufactured. This factory spans 880 square meters and has an estimated expenditure of ₹1.25 crore. Furthermore, a company registered in the names of Semil’s daughter-in-law and family members has a share capital of ₹50 lakh and a factory worth ₹1 crore.
Another factory in Ujjain, valued at approximately ₹1.5 crore, was also uncovered. Records indicate that during his 33 years of service, Semil earned a total salary of ₹2 crore but spent ₹6.5 crore, indicating an expenditure that is 258% higher than his income if living expenses are calculated at 33% of total income.
The Lokayukt has filed a case against the engineer under Section 13(1)(B) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018. Investigative actions are ongoing.
