New Delhi, July 21: A devastating fire in a residence on Lodhi Road in South Delhi has resulted in the deaths of a woman and her two children, officials reported on Tuesday.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, the fire broke out around 10:21 AM in Block B of B.K. Dutt Colony, located opposite Chawla Sweets.
Emergency services were alerted, and a water tender, a water bowser, and a large fire tender were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Station Officer Manoj informed the control room at approximately 10:50 AM that the bodies of two children and a woman had been discovered on the third floor of the building.
By around 10:55 AM, the station officer reported the need for a senior official at the site. Assistant Divisional Officer Rajesh Shukla was subsequently sent to the location.
By the time rescue operations commenced, the fire had spread throughout the house, causing panic in the area due to thick smoke billowing from the building.
Firefighters faced challenges gaining entry, as they had to break down a locked door. Inside, they found the woman and her two children in critical condition. Sadly, officials confirmed that all three had succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The fire was eventually brought under control, and Station Officer Manoj issued a ‘stop’ message to the control room at 11:10 AM. However, cooling operations continued at the site.
This incident follows a similar tragedy in June, when a massive fire at a B&B in Malviya Nagar claimed the lives of over 22 people and left many others injured.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced financial assistance for the victims’ families, pledging a compensation of 1 million rupees for each deceased family.
