Ukraine Urges UN Security Council to Increase Pressure on Russia Amid Ongoing Attacks

New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba addressed the United Nations Security Council during an emergency meeting on October 7-8, emphasizing the urgent need to increase pressure on Russia. He reported that recent attacks have resulted in the deaths of approximately 100 civilians in just one week, with cities like Kramatorsk, Pryluky, and the capital, Kyiv, among the hardest hit.

Kuleba accused Russia of deliberately targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, aiming to plunge the nation into cold and darkness before winter sets in. He stated that the emergency meeting was called at Ukraine’s request following a series of significant assaults by Russian forces.

In his remarks, Kuleba highlighted the dire conditions in occupied cities like Oleshky, where residents are deprived of basic necessities such as food, drinking water, and medicine. He also warned that Russian attacks on shipping in the Black Sea pose a threat to global food security.

Furthermore, Kuleba criticized Belarus for allowing Russia to utilize its infrastructure to continue drone strikes against Ukrainian cities. He called for Belarus to cease its alleged involvement in Russia’s war crimes and to end the use of its facilities for such purposes.

The Foreign Minister urged members of the Security Council to take concrete steps to halt Russia’s aggression, protect civilians, and establish lasting peace in accordance with the UN Charter. He stressed that increasing pressure on Russia is essential to end the war. Kuleba warned that any decision to weaken sanctions against Moscow would send the wrong message and prolong the conflict, creating a more severe situation rather than resolving it.

Kuleba’s appeal underscores the urgent need for international action to address the ongoing crisis in Ukraine as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.
