Noida, April 23: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has made significant arrests, capturing two suspected terrorists linked to a Pakistan-supported network. They are accused of plotting terrorist activities in India and inciting youth through social media.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Tushar Chauhan, also known as Hizbullah Ali Khan (20), and Sameer Khan (20). Both were apprehended in Noida on Thursday. Authorities recovered a pistol, five live cartridges, a knife, and two mobile phones from their possession.
The ATS had received prior intelligence indicating that under the direction of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, certain gangsters and radical elements were attempting to recruit Indian youth to form sleeper cells. Investigations revealed that Pakistani gangsters Shahzad Bhatti and Abid Jatt were targeting Indian youth via social media platforms.
During interrogations, it was revealed that Tushar Chauhan, a resident of Meerut, came into contact with these gangsters through social media and gradually became radicalized. He connected with individuals from Pakistan via Instagram and later communicated through voice and video calls.
He allegedly received instructions to throw grenades at certain individuals and commit murder. In return, he was promised an advance of ₹50,000 and ₹2.5 lakh upon completion of the task, along with arrangements for a passport to facilitate travel to Pakistan via Dubai.
The investigation also uncovered that Sameer Khan was similarly linked to this network and communicated through encrypted channels. He was tasked with writing ‘TTH’ (Tehrik-e-Taliban Hindustan) on walls and recruiting others.
Both suspects were reportedly scouting sensitive locations and were prepared to execute a major incident upon receiving instructions. They had also threatened several individuals, allegedly including Pakistani handlers who participated in conference calls.
The ATS has filed charges against both suspects at the ATS police station in Lucknow under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 2023, including 148, 152, 61(2), sections 3/4/25 of the Arms Act 1959, and sections 13/18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.
Both individuals are being presented in the relevant court for further legal action. The ATS is preparing to seek police custody remand to gather information about their associates and the broader network.
