Mumbai, February 19: The railway authorities in Mumbai have taken strict action against a fake ‘Baba Bengali.’ On February 17, a joint team from Central Railway and Western Railway conducted a raid in the Re Road area based on reliable information from a tipster.

The operation involved the Information Technology unit, led by Senior Inspector G.K. Rai from Central Railway, Assistant Inspector P.K. Mishra, Senior Inspector S.K. Soni from Western Railway, and other staff members. They raided the Meera Ali Dargah and Darukhana complex located in Re Road.

During the raid, the team arrested Mohammad Nazir Andari. Approximately 15,000 promotional posters were seized from him, which advertised fake miracles and treatments under the name ‘Baba Bengali.’ These posters were intended for display at railway stations, coaches, and surrounding areas.

During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had not obtained any permission from the railway administration. Nevertheless, he planned to print and display these posters to promote his business on railway property.

The Wadala Railway Police have registered a case under Sections 144, 145(B), 147, and 166 of the Railway Act. These sections include offenses such as unauthorized advertising on railway property, illegal advertisements, and littering in public spaces.

The investigation has revealed that the printing company and others involved in pasting the posters at railway coaches and stations are also implicated. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the financial transactions between the accused and the printing agency, as well as the collaborators who assisted in putting up the posters. The railway police are actively searching for all involved parties.

Railway officials stated that such activities not only mislead passengers but also damage railway property. The department has warned that strict action will be taken against those who engage in unauthorized advertising.
