Kolkata, June 12: The CID has summoned Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Member of Parliament, for further questioning on June 14 regarding discrepancies in the signatures of TMC legislators.
Banerjee was called in for questioning at the CID headquarters on Thursday, where he underwent nearly six hours of interrogation before being released late at night.
According to police sources, during the lengthy questioning, Banerjee struggled to answer specific questions related to the original resolution book and the minutes of meetings.
One source revealed, “When asked if he could deny knowledge of the resolution book as the party’s general secretary, he lost his composure for a few minutes.”
In addition to questions about the original resolution book, Banerjee was unable to provide satisfactory answers to several other inquiries from the investigating officers.
Following the CID interrogation, Banerjee went directly to the residence of Mamata Banerjee on Harish Chatterjee Street. After ignoring three consecutive notices, he finally appeared before the CID for questioning on Thursday.
The Calcutta High Court has granted Banerjee protection from arrest and police action for 21 days, while also instructing him to cooperate with the investigating officers. The court has also permitted the CID to conduct searches and raids as necessary for a fair investigation into the matter.
