Maharashtras Deputy Mayor Promises Relief for Farmers Amid Drought Crisis

Mumbai, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra’s Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi has made significant remarks regarding the escalating drought crisis in the state. He stated that Eknath Shinde, the chief leader of Shiv Sena and Deputy Chief Minister, has raised the issue of Maharashtra’s drought situation with the Prime Minister in Delhi. Ghadi expressed confidence that the central government will provide relief to farmers, ensuring that no one will celebrate Diwali in darkness.

Ghadhi noted that drought has been declared in 265 talukas, with some areas experiencing no rainfall at all. This has led to substantial losses for farmers, who are demanding between ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 per acre. He emphasized that both the state and central governments will work together to assist those affected.

He mentioned that a meeting has already taken place between Shinde and Prime Minister Modi. Ghadi assured that with Shinde’s involvement and the support of the Prime Minister, Maharashtra can expect substantial aid from the central government.

In addition to discussing drought relief, Ghadi addressed the role of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) during Ganesh Chaturthi. He announced new directives aimed at removing illegal hoardings, banners, posters, and signboards for ten days. He reiterated the importance of using eco-friendly clay idols during the festival, which can be easily immersed in water without harming the environment.

Ghadhi stressed that the clay used for these idols could also be beneficial for local plants. Furthermore, he called for strict action against illegal hoardings throughout Mumbai, urging the municipal administration to enforce existing regulations and consider implementing stricter rules if necessary.

He appealed to all political parties to discourage their members from putting up hoardings. Ghadi highlighted recent accidents caused by falling hoardings, underscoring the need for safety measures to protect citizens.

He concluded by urging the people of Mumbai and political leaders to heed the mayor’s appeal and prioritize safety in the city.
