New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, has taken aim at Rahul Gandhi and the opposition regarding the recent voter cut issue. Athawale stated that he possesses detailed information from the Election Commission, which indicates that the removal of 130 million votes was justified and not a deliberate act.
Athawale explained that among the cuts, 28 million names belonged to deceased individuals, while 30 million voters were untraceable. Additionally, 63 million voters had permanently relocated, leading to their votes being removed. He emphasized that the total of 130 million votes was not an arbitrary decision.
He urged Rahul Gandhi to engage constructively with the Election Commission rather than inciting unrest. Athawale pointed out that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has ordered the reinstatement of names that were incorrectly removed. He affirmed that the decision regarding the voter cuts was a collective agreement among the commissioners.
The minister remarked that the initiative to remove incorrect names was essential, and he believes it is inappropriate for the opposition to politicize the matter. Athawale noted that while some votes may have been lost, they were not solely meant for the opposition, indicating that the ruling party also had a stake in those votes.
He reiterated that the Election Commission operates independently, free from governmental pressure, and has the authority to make decisions regarding the electoral process. Athawale highlighted that the commission’s autonomy was established under the Constitution, which grants it the power to manage voter lists.
In addressing the so-called “Cockroach Public Party,” he expressed pride in the youth, like Abhijit Deepke, who have drawn attention to issues like paper leaks. He mentioned that the government has responded to their demands, including the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. However, he criticized the need for constant protests by this faction.
Athawale concluded with a warning to the opposition, saying, “A cockroach should think twice; I am part of Narendra Modi’s team, so don’t create unnecessary chaos.” He stressed that making derogatory comments about the Prime Minister is unacceptable.
