Chandigarh, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Tensions have escalated between the Punjab government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following CBI raids at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s camp office in Chandigarh. Punjab Cabinet Minister Berinder Kumar Goyal accused the BJP of misusing central agencies to influence the political landscape ahead of elections.
Goyal stated that the BJP is repeating its historical pattern of deploying central agencies and the CBI before elections to prepare the ground politically. He emphasized that the BJP’s situation in Punjab is dire, lacking both adequate candidates and public support. “The people of Punjab are well aware of the BJP’s actions and policies, which have consistently worked against their interests,” he said.
Highlighting the support for Chief Minister Mann, Goyal pointed out that 95 out of 117 assembly members stand with him. He questioned what message the CBI’s actions were intended to send to the public. “The people of Punjab are not afraid and will not be swayed by such tactics to support the BJP. They understand every political maneuver and will respond at the polls,” he added.
Goyal also raised concerns about the Election Commission‘s functioning, referencing issues related to voting during elections in West Bengal and Bihar. He called for accountability from the Chief Election Commissioner, stating that the Commission has failed to uphold democratic principles. “If no action is taken against the Election Commissioner, why is the CBI conducting raids at the Chief Minister’s office?” he asked.
Challenging the BJP, Goyal urged the party to engage in politics transparently and present its achievements to the public. “The BJP has previously held power at both the center and in Punjab, and it must explain its record and future plans. They lack substantial issues to discuss,” he asserted. Goyal claimed that the actions and rhetoric from the opposition are merely signs of frustration in light of the accomplishments made under Mann’s leadership, which he believes surpass those of the last fifty years.
