Ranchi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Hemant Soren has called for enhanced safety and better facilities for devotees during Durga Puja celebrations in Jharkhand. He directed the administration to ensure effective management of law and order, traffic, electricity, water supply, and cleanliness.
During a meeting at his residence on October 6, Soren appealed to various Durga Puja committees to adopt environmentally friendly practices for idol immersion and to run awareness campaigns against substance abuse in the pandals.
Representatives from the Durga Puja committees presented the Chief Minister with offerings, including a ceremonial cloth, a statue of Goddess Durga, and a bouquet. They also invited him and his family to visit the pandals and participate in the grand aarti. The committees expressed gratitude for the support received from the district administration in their preparations.
The representatives noted that ongoing discussions with the administration are helping to address various issues related to the celebrations. Soren accepted the invitation and mentioned his intention to visit several pandals during the festival.
He emphasized that while Durga Puja is a celebration of faith and tradition, it also carries a responsibility for environmental protection. He suggested that the committees and administration work together to create alternative and eco-friendly arrangements for idol immersion.
To mitigate pollution in water bodies post-immersion, Soren urged the need for measures that respect religious sentiments while safeguarding the environment. He also encouraged the placement of banners and hoardings promoting awareness against substance abuse in the pandals.
The committees assured that they would spread messages against drug use and motivate youth to stay away from substances. Soren instructed officials to ensure special facilities for women, children, and the elderly during the festivities. Adequate arrangements for traffic management, electricity, drinking water, and cleanliness in pandals and along main routes were also mandated. He stressed the importance of maintaining law and order throughout the festival.
