Congress Urges Election Commission to Address Opposition Concerns

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot calls for the Election Commission to hear opposition concerns after leaders were detained during a march.

Jaipur, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed deep concern on Monday regarding the detention of opposition leaders during a march from Parliament to the Election Commission. He emphasized that these leaders should have been allowed to present their views to the Election Commission.

Gehlot noted that the march was organized to facilitate a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, where the opposition intended to voice their concerns. However, the march was halted before the leaders could reach the Election Commission, resulting in the detention of prominent figures such as Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several Members of Parliament.

He questioned why opposition leaders were prevented from meeting with the Election Commission, highlighting that they were seeking a direct opportunity to communicate their issues. The abrupt stoppage of the march raises serious concerns, according to Gehlot.

He criticized the police for blocking the opposition leaders’ path to the Election Commission and argued that political parties should be afforded the chance to engage with constitutional institutions. Gehlot also stated that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar should listen to the issues raised by political parties. He insisted that the Election Commission must respond to the questions and petitions put forth by stakeholders.

Furthermore, Gehlot addressed allegations of vote theft and issues related to the Special Investigation Report (SIR), asserting that these matters should be resolved through transparency, accountability, and due process. He emphasized that the concerns raised by the opposition should be addressed through dialogue and established institutional procedures, referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in his remarks.
