Maharashtra CM Denies Midnight Meeting with Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai, April 25: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has dismissed reports claiming that he held a secret midnight meeting with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray at his official residence, ‘Varsha.’

This clarification comes amid rising political tensions ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Speculation began when the social media handle ‘Prabuddha Bharat’ posted that Thackeray visited the Chief Minister’s residence late at night. The post suggested that the meeting aimed to ensure uncontested elections for the Legislative Council to prevent any ‘bargaining.’

Fadnavis made it clear that no such meeting took place and emphasized that there is no need for secrecy between the two leaders. He stated that if he and Uddhav Thackeray were to meet, it could be done openly without any need for confidentiality.

He further mentioned that there are currently no issues between them that require hiding from the public. The Chief Minister criticized the channels spreading this news, labeling them as ‘false’ and warned that legal notices would be issued to those deliberately disseminating misinformation.

Earlier, when asked about a potential meeting between Fadnavis and Thackeray, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut provided vague responses. He indicated that only the two leaders could confirm whether a meeting occurred.

This political stir has arisen following the announcement of elections for nine seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, scheduled for May 12. Uddhav Thackeray’s current term ends on May 13, but allies from the Maha Vikas Aghadi are publicly urging him to contest again.

Recently, Supriya Sule, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) and MP, formally requested Thackeray to run for the Legislative Council elections on social media. She stated that the Nationalist Congress Party strongly urges former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to contest, highlighting his seniority and experience as beneficial for both the house and the state. She expressed hope that Thackeray would consider this request positively.
