Lucknow, August 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharply reacted to Shivpal Singh Yadav’s promise to appoint Azam Khan as Home Minister if the Samajwadi Party (SP) comes to power in Uttar Pradesh. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya stated that the SP government is unlikely to form, but Yadav’s remarks are an attempt to appease the Muslim vote bank.
Maurya emphasized, “The SP’s anti-Hindu stance, its history of supporting criminals and rioters, and its record of shielding goons are well-known. Shivpal Singh Yadav, allegedly under the influence of his nephew Akhilesh Yadav, claims that cases against rioters will be withdrawn. He then visits Rampur to meet Azam Khan, who has been convicted in serious cases and is not in a position to contest elections. Yet, he talks about making him Home Minister if the SP comes to power. This reflects their true character, and the public is watching.”
He further added, “The SP will not form a government, but they are engaging in appeasement politics to garner Muslim votes and promote lawlessness. The people of this state will not tolerate it. The state is moving towards good governance.”
BJP MP Dinesh Sharma remarked, “We dream of something else. The SP seems to be daydreaming. There’s a saying, ‘There won’t be nine measures of oil, nor will the SP form a government.’ The atmosphere in the state and the country is in favor of the BJP, and this time we will secure a two-thirds majority. Such statements have no basis in reality.”
Minister Daya Shankar Mishra commented, “This is their fanciful thinking. The people of Uttar Pradesh wholeheartedly support the double-engine government. Those who divide society on caste lines are merely dreaming of power. They can appoint ministers, but their dreams will remain unfulfilled.”
BJP MLA Ramesh Jaiswal added, “There’s a saying, ‘Nothing was ours, yet we went to distribute the village’s share.’ Everyone knows Shivpal Yadav’s position in the SP. Only Akhilesh Yadav holds sway there. Now, to retain the Muslim vote bank, Shivpal has made statements about Azam Khan, but how many times did Akhilesh and Shivpal visit him while he was in jail? These are just populist statements.”
He noted that with the 2027 assembly elections approaching, Shivpal Yadav is trying to woo Muslims, keeping the ‘MY’ equation in mind.
