Mumbai, August 13: In Haldwani, Uttarakhand, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has targeted the BJP and Hindu organizations following a ‘purification’ ritual held at Ramleela Maidan after the Congress ‘Vijay Shankhnad’ rally. Kharge addressed the rally on August 8, and shortly after, the Shree Ram Sena Dharmarth Seva Nyas conducted a purification ceremony at the same venue.
Kharge, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, expressed that Congress has consistently stated there is no place for Dalits in the country. He criticized the attempts to divide people in the name of religion. He questioned the necessity of conducting a ritual at Ramleela Maidan, which is typically used for political gatherings by various parties.
He remarked that such events are fundamentally against Hinduism and contribute to dividing the nation and creating disputes among castes. Kharge emphasized that these statements are intended to showcase the government’s readiness, accusing it of making demands only after fulfilling its agenda. He noted that there was no prior discussion with other parties regarding this issue, and now, after wasting 19 days, there is a call for an extension.
Describing the government’s attitude as shameful, Kharge stated that parliamentary time is precious, and all parties should work together. His comments indicate a rise in political accusations between Congress and the BJP.
In response to Home Minister Amit Shah’s statements, Kharge said, “When Vande Mataram and Jan Gan Man were being sung today, you had 19 days in Parliament and at least 25-26 days prior. Why was this not remembered then? I believe this statement is meant to inform the public. After your agenda was completed, you now seek time after wasting everyone’s 19 days. This is a matter of shame.”
